Do You Need a Visa for Bhutan?
It depends on your nationality.
Indian Citizens
- No visa required
- Must carry a valid passport or voter ID (EPIC)
- Must obtain an Entry Permit, which can be:
i. Collected on arrival (Phuentsholing border or Paro Airport)
ii. Applied for in advance via Bhutan e-permit system (recommended) - SDF (Sustainable Development Fee) applies: Rs. 1,200 per person, per night
Citizens of Bangladesh & Maldives
- No visa required
- Must obtain an Entry Permit
- Valid passport is mandatory
- SDF charges apply (same as Indian travelers or waived under bilateral agreements)
All Other International Travelers
- Visa required in advance
- Must book the trip through a registered Bhutan tour operator or partner (like us)
- Valid passport (minimum 6 month validity) required
- Visa is processed only after confirming your travel itinerary and SDF payment
- Once approved, you’ll receive a visa clearance letter (used to board the flight)
Bhutan Visa Application – Step-by-Step (For International Travelers)
- Choose your itinerary and confirm dates with a licensed Bhutan tour operator
- Provide passport scan, photo, and travel details
- Make payment for visa fee and SDF
- Receive visa approval letter by email (approx. 5–7 working days)
- Show visa letter while boarding your Bhutan flight
- Visa is stamped at immigration in Paro or entry checkpoint
Visa Fee: USD $40 per person (one-time)

- Paro International Airport – All flyers
- Phuentsholing – For Indian travelers and road-entry tourists
- Gelephu / Samdrup Jongkhar – Less-used land borders with longer routes
